Savannah Wedding Rain Plan, But Make It Chic

Here’s the truth: Savannah is gorgeous year-round, but she’s moody. Afternoon showers, misty mornings, sudden downpours—it all happens here. I know from experience from my own Savannah Wedding. But rain doesn’t have to ruin your wedding day (or your photos). In fact, with a little planning, it can feel romantic, cinematic, and totally chic.

Here are my top tips for making rain your style moment instead of your stress trigger:

1. Choose a Savannah Wedding Venue with a Back-Up Plan

Some venues in Savannah have the prettiest indoor options built right in—think historic ballrooms, glass conservatories, or covered courtyards that still let in beautiful light. When you’re touring venues, always ask: “Where would the ceremony happen if it rains?” If the answer makes you feel great about your photos and guest experience, you’re golden.

2. If Your Heart is Set on a Venue with No Rain Plan…

That’s okay! Trust me, I wasn’t willing to change my dream location. So, I get it. Cobblestone streets, oak trees, and mossy courtyards can be worth the gamble. Just make sure to:

  • Rent a tent or canopy as a stylish “just in case.” I personally LOVE clear tents or the sailcloth tents. They both can create beautiful images.
  • Stock up on chic umbrellas (they look amazing in photos). Clear, black, or something custom that matches your wedding design are all great options.
  • Embrace it—mist and raindrops create seriously editorial shots. Rain during a grand exit is actually really fun. And if you’re willing to really embrace it, rain can make some romantic ‘dancing in the rain, kissing, and running photos. Think of it like a sprinkler instead of rain.

3. Prep Your Timeline with Wiggle Room

Rain can slow down transitions—especially if we’re moving between indoor and outdoor spots. Build in a few extra minutes so you never feel rushed. It keeps your energy calm and your photos relaxed.

4. Bonus Tip: Hair + Makeup that Lasts

The biggest reassurance? Knowing you’ll still look flawless if the sky opens up. Talk with your hair and makeup artist before the big day about their rain strategy—what products they use, how they prep your skin, and what touch-ups to keep nearby. A confident glam squad = a confident bride.

5. Trust the Mood

At the end of the day, rain adds atmosphere. It deepens colors, makes lights glow, and adds that cinematic edge to your photos. Some of my favorite Savannah weddings happened on a rainy day. Plus, a light overcast can create perfect even and soft light.

Bottom line: You don’t need perfect weather for perfect photos—you just need a plan (and a photographer who’s not afraid of a little rain).
